The Creation of the Good Spirit Sacred Space: A Place for Us, By Us
When I envisioned The Good Spirit Café, I knew it had to be more than just a place to grab a smoothie or sip tea. The idea was born out of necessity — a yearning for connection, collaboration, and sovereignty in a world that seems increasingly intent on watching, dividing, and isolating us.
And so, I created The Good Spirit Sacred Space within the café: a physical sanctuary for our community to gather, organize, and plan — away from the gaze of algorithms, data miners, and surveillance cameras.
Why Now? Why Here?
The times we live in are unsettling — not just because of what we see on the news, but because of what we feel in our bones. Every new policy seems to chip away at our ability to live fully, freely, and in alignment with our values. Decisions by the current administration, from social program rollbacks to digital surveillance expansion, remind us that we can no longer afford to leave our future in someone else’s hands.
We need each other more than ever.
We need spaces where we can speak freely without fear of being studied or targeted.
We need spaces where we can share skills, resources, and strategies to endure and even thrive despite systemic challenges.
We need spaces where the collective wisdom of our community can guide us toward action — rooted in love, resilience, and a determination to leave no one behind.
That’s why The Good Spirit Sacred Space exists.
Offline, Together
For too long, our connections have lived on screens. Social media gave us the illusion of community, while monitoring every word we type, every photo we share, every idea we explore.
Here at Good Spirit, I invite you to step away from the digital trap and back into the circle. Our sacred space is intentionally offline — no hashtags, no tracking. Just real people, real conversations, real organizing.
I envision it as a place where:
Parents can come together and discuss how to safeguard their children’s futures in the face of shrinking education and healthcare resources.
Entrepreneurs and creatives can form cooperatives and share tools to keep wealth circulating in our neighborhoods.
Activists can build strategies to protect our rights and freedoms.
Neighbors can simply exhale, break bread, and remind each other that they are not alone.
Friends can gather an support one another.
What’s Next
I don’t claim to have all the answers. But I do know that waiting for someone else to “save” us is no longer an option. The next few years will test us in ways we may not yet fully see — and preparation starts today.
We will be hosting monthly planning sessions, workshops, and healing circles in the Sacred Space. Some will be quiet and restorative. Others will be lively and action-driven. All will be rooted in the belief that our survival and success depend on our willingness to come together and organize.
This is not just about resistance — it’s about building. Building networks. Building support systems. Building a vision of what life can be, even in the midst of chaos.
An Invitation
I invite you — our neighbors, our kin, our fellow dreamers and doers — to take a seat at the table. Bring your ideas, your concerns, your gifts. Together, we can create a roadmap that ensures we endure what is coming and plant seeds for something even greater to grow.
Let’s reclaim our agency. Let’s move from being studied to being self-determined. Let’s turn our community into our greatest resource.
Here, you are seen. Here, you are heard. Here, you are home.
